Problem: Katie’s entry way was a messy pile of coats, gloves, shoes, and bags. The family entry and exit point provided little room for coming and going — much less storing all those quick grab necessities.

Solution: Working with the natural flow of the home, we created a transition zone with a place to hold everything needed for a fast exit and a smooth return. I call this the landing area. To pull this together, we purchased an Umbra 8-hook flip rack in Espresso from the Container Store ($39.99) and a storage ottoman in faux brown leather from Target ($79.99).
The total time for this project was 2.5 hours (including assessment conversations, measuring, shopping, installation and putting things away). Total cost of this project was $254.98 (including materials and consultant costs).
